A discount campaign in the ancient town of Hoi An has encouraged nearly 60 percent more domestic tourists to visit the ancient town this year.
The city government attributed the increase in visitor numbers to a VND4 billion (US$225,288) campaign to stimulate local tourism and upgrade infrastructure and local attractions, as well as the national “Impressive Vietnam” campaign.
Hoi An City People’s Committee Deputy Chairman Truong Van Bay said 317,000 tourists visited the World Heritage-listed in the first three months of this year, an overall increase of 5.8 percent on the first quarter of last year.
During the quarter, the number of domestic tourists rose by 57.6 percent over the same period last year.
The hotel occupancy rate in Hoi An, famous for its monthly lantern festival, is now 82.7 percent, higher than the usual rate of 75 to 80 percent. Read more

Local shops: silk
Most people that go to Hoi An do some shopping. It is famous for its tailoring, especially suits and things made of silk. I am not a big shopper and I could not be bothered to haggle down the prices as is always necessary in Southeast Asia. One thing I would have liked to get is a silk lantern. These were very inexpensive compared to western prices.

Hoi An Taxi and Rental Car Service is one of the options you have to get around this city in Vietnam. Taxis and rental cars are something, which you probably won’t need much in a compact town like Hoi An. This is because the town is of such a small size you will be able to cover most of the sights of tourist interest by walking.

Taxi in Hội An - Mai Linh Taxi
In case you are planning to travel to the suburbs of the city or to places outside the precincts of the city then there is a requirement for the taxi or the rental cars. The best way to avail of the taxi service in Hoi An is by giving a ring to companies providing the taxi service. Getting the numbers will not be a problem for you, since the hotel in which you will be staying will provide you the numbers.
The Fairfoo Travel and the Vin Taxi will be able to provide you a car suiting your requirements. Something, which you must carry while traveling the taxi, is the map of Hoi An. Not having the map might take up a lot of your time making the driver understand your destination.
Don’t expect the meter driven taxi in the Hoi An. You will have to bargain a lot about the fares of the taxi. But there is no need to worry because the charge is not much. One thing you need to keep in mind while availing of the Hoi An Taxi and Rental Car Service is that, you must negotiate the price before taking a ride. Otherwise you might be shocked to see the final fare when you get down!
Hoi An Taxi and Rental Car Service includes hiring private cars for traveling in and around the town. But for that you need to have a temporary Vietnamese driving license.
